This week finds me back home on Long Island enjoying some winter weather of our own. A mid-December snowstorm has blanketed the area, creating some nice winter photography opportunities. When snowstorms hit the island I like to head for the beaches. The coupling of the coastal beach, traditionally associated with summer and the snowy landscape make for a lovely contradiction that do compliment each other. The auburn colored sand, the warm light of a rising sun and blueish white of a fresh snow make a pleasing palette. The weather cooperated this morning and I was provided with an ample sunrise. As is the case with most beaches, the wind was biting and the moving tide eventually washes away most of the snow. So getting out quickly is a top priority.
