Photo of the week – July 2nd

Posted by

For the last 18 years the first week and a half of July finds me in Kennebunkport, Maine.  The trip is equal parts family vacation and photography excursion.  The photography portion of the trip requires 4 AM wake up times.  This allows me to arrive at my destination prior to  sunrise.  My list of destinations is extensive Lighthouses, beaches, fishing harbors, and lobster boats.  With any luck I will get the famous mixed bag of Maine summer weather.   Pre-dawn weather in Maine can be tricky, it can be chilly, cloudy, foggy and then 15 minutes later hot and muggy with bright sunshine.  Early July offers sunrise times are anywhere from 4:55 AM to 5:15 AM with skies lighting up with color a half-hour prior to that.

This week’s photo provided me with a cloudless sunrise, but a beautiful one just the same.  The Maine coast always offers great photo opportunities no matter the conditions.  By 8 AM the sun is hot and to high in the sky for meaningful landscape images, so that is when I can return to my family and resume that portion of my vacation.  Always with a careful eye towards tomorrow mornings location and opportunities.  This week’s image is from Biddeford Pool Maine.
